In this essay, I shall evaluate the Route 1 project and my attempt at meeting the brief with my media product.
I believe that my finished product does indeed meet the brief, being a universally friendly watch, featuring all of the components of a child-friendly advert, with complete inclusivity and a lack of bias. I cannot personally see a video such as this causing any form of controversy. The video pushes out the opportunity for adults to become advocates, giving power to young people and being the bridge between the diplomatic relations of the child and their carer.
The message within my product, is that being in care can be difficult for young people, which is why it is profoundly important that young people get the support they need, which many people have the potential to offer, with becoming an advocate being a surefire way to make a difference. My target audience, are UK residents who are adults over the age of 25, who are looking into being a guardian for somebody in need. I am certain that such a demographic exists, with many youth projects being present in Somerset, which fills me with confidence when considering the rest of the country.
The client came into our college not long ago and explained the requirements of the video and what it is that Route 1 do. Since the clients's visit, I have sent multiple emails but have not yet received a response, due to this I have not had any substantial feedback, however my tutor has expressed a positive opinion of the work that I have completed.
However, communicating with a client is indeed very important, as when working for or with a client, you must be kept up to date with their demands, staying on top of what they require from you and always listening so that you can deliver a desirable product. I used my email address as well as website links to communicate with the client.
When working with a client, (with Super 8 promoting similar ideals) it is important to maintain good relations and communicative skills with your client, making them feel listened to, offering ideas, proposing strategies and always being punctual when communicating with the client, being adaptable and pleasant to converse with.
In a production team, similar qualities are demanded, you must be versatile, welcoming, diplomatic and easy to get on with. When looking at the more skill-focused aspects of working in a production team, it is important to be punctual, reliable, helpful and focused on your skills, which will help for you to create a media product that you can feel good about.
When presented with the question of identifying previous examples of proposing and communicating ideas, I can indeed consider a number of examples. The first, being during the final major project at the end of the previous academic year, where myself and one of my peers decided to co-operatively film at the same location together, even though we were doing different projects. I decided that we would use the same footage, edited in our own style, which went down very well with my peer and we benefitted from the idea. Secondly, during the short film assignment, I proposed many ideas, most of which ended up being used in the short film, particularly with regards to incorporating an antagonist into the film. Thirdly, I can also recall that during the small music video project at the end of the first year, I had an integral role to play in deciding upon using my own instruments to feature in the music video, so that the product looked better and more authentic. This idea was communicated to a group of 4 (including myself).
The issues that I faced when working in a group were that most notably, I prefer to work alone. When working alone, your ideas are untampered with and your raw creativity is able to shine through. It can also feel as though you are unable to bring your own authenticity to a production, due to the fact that you are an ensemble as opposed to a solo act. I also think that working in a group without proper hierarchy can at times, be an ineffective endeavour. In my opinion, multiple good ideas colliding and combining can go two ways, an amalgamation of many remarkable aspects that do not get in each other's way, or a cacophony of muddled mediocrity.
