My portfolio has recently been updated, it is not yet completely finished, as there is still more to add, however it has been updated and is showcasing some of the work that I am most happy with and worked on independently. I believe that it will indeed help me get into university, as it showcases my ability in both music and media studies. Having shown one educator of a university already who stated when looking at my work that "you know what you're doing", I feel confident that my portfolio is a substantial representation of my abilities.
I have learnt a lot during my time at college including implementing professional practice, planning, structuring a project, finding and making connections and more. I see these all as ways to build yourself up and progress further as a student and these qualities will serve me well in higher education.
I also think that one skill that is very important to learn as a person, particularly in my field of work, is working with others. However accustomed you are to working with others, it is an aspect of working in the real world that is most important for any individual. You will find yourself working in teams or with clients and usually this involves meeting lots of new people, which you must be prepared for. This is why interpersonal relation-related skills are so important, because you will work with so many people when you are pursuing a career in most fields. Respect and confidence, both of which I have also been able to develop, will get you very far.
I have certainly learnt and developed a set of transferrable skills which will prove helpful in finding work in later years, particularly in music, sound/audio and camera-operating. During the short film and documentary projects, I have learnt a great deal about editing, filming and working with others, with evidence on the advantages and disadvantages of working in a group. I believe that the projects I have worked on, have stimulated my progress and development in this course, giving me more than adequate preparation for the final major project.
