On the 12th September 2022, myself and my media class were tasked with the challenge of creating a film suede. The following is a reflection on our day of shooting but first of all, what is a film suede?
What are Film Swedes?
A film swede is a brief summary of a film, stylised with quick shots, very simple dialogue and a condensed storyline which is still comprehensive to the audience. They are rarely taken too seriously and are generally a form of perhaps even satirical entertainment, however a suede can be produced in any style.
Our Film Swede
Our film swede was inspired by ‘A Few Dollars More’, a western film starring Clint Eastwood, perhaps the most decorated western actor in the history of the genre. We shot some scenes yesterday, as I am writing this on the 13th, a day after we filmed.
We ventured from our college to a small field not far from the car park for our college/the college’s sports centre, where we filmed all of the scenes within the space of around two hours. I believe that filming was successful and that we attained most of the shots that we wanted to walk away from the shoot with. However, I believe that this could have went better, in spite of the fact that we were on limited time, I believe that there were shots that we could have done with, such as a shot of my character which focuses on them after they have been shot by one of my team member’s characters.
The prospect of reusing shots has been presented, which I am not hugely fond of, I would prefer it if we had every single shot that we needed, even if the differences between shots were not very distinguishable, however, this is our third day back and there is still so much to be done. Personally, I believe that as second years, we should be far more fussed about professional practice and sparing nothing, everything should be taken care of and more, we should shoot repeatedly to ensure that we attain the best possible results and that we leave no jobs undone.
