Last week myself and a handful of my peers made a well-being video for Somerset BFI, which involved one of my classmates being posed with the vague question of what their mental well-being is like for them and their own personal experiences, particularly with regards to mental health, as well as their experience with the college's services when it comes to mental health support. The college's involvement, comes from the brief, which asked that we use the opportunity to mention what helps people during mental difficult, which also involved giving Strode's well-being services a mention.
Filming
Filming for the video was very easy, all that we needed to do was to get our interviewee sat down in a well-lit and atmospheric shot and have them talk about their experiences with regards to their mental health. The filming took place in the TV Studio and while the student spoke of their more positive experiences and opinions, which did indeed involve the college and its wellbeing services, we cut to B-roll shots of our interviewee conversing with Karen Guile, the Wellbeing Counsellor of our college which made for some good content to play for our minute-long video.
My Particular Job
I was given the bespoke job of making the music for the video, which was ambient and simple. Due to the nature of the video, I wanted the music to be simple and gentle, because the video was in regard of a sensitive subject and I wanted to get the mood of the music right. Thus, I ensured that the music was minimalistic and uncomplicated, thus it would blend nicely into the background and not be offensive to anyone, being a very simple piece of music that nobody could have any profoundly strong opinions on due to its nature.
